1996 Saturn SL Cylinder Miss....

I own a '96 Saturn SL that is starting to develop a cylinder miss between 1500 rpms up through 3000 rpms. The problem is intermittent, but tends to be more pronounced when engine is under load, ie; a/c on, going up a hill... etc.

I have changed the plugs/wires, air filter, fuel filter, O2 sensor, in the past week, but no results. I have tested the coil packs as well, OHMs are in spec, and they have a strong spark.

I'm not sure where to look next, I would suspect a faulty sensor?!? Are these cars known for this kind of problem? If so, what is it usually?

first get a wireing diag. for the computer. next pull the plugs out three i believe with manule trans. you can check every sensor from here. or you can climb under the car your choice. this option is the best, a scanner because you might check the sensor ok but under heat any sensor might start acting funny. check fuel pressure also.

reviving things from the dead. well if the guy ever guys back to see anything, which im sure he has already fixed his problem.

but anyways, that problem is either a misfire or a bad torque converter if automatic transmission. you can buy new plugs and wires and still get the probably if you buy cheapo crap. i have been through many products and the ones that work out of the box and last, as of wires, are napa belden, dealer(ac delco), and msd. as of plugs there are really only 2 choices that work best, ngk bkr5esa-11 or ac delco rapidfires(i prefer rapidfires). now too saturns are known for the coil terminals to corroded causing misfires. these terminals are on the ignition module and are below the coil. they stick up and go into the coil. another reason for a misfire would be the coolant temperature sensor, as a known culprit. this problem is also normally as known to be at a time when you seem to get poor gas mileage.
