Cold Air intake for 1997 2.0 SOHC

Hey I've looked into getting a cold air intake for my car just for the heck of it, but I can't find any parts for my engine, it all seems to be for the zx2. I don't expect much power and I dont want any other mods, I just wanted to get a cold air intake to see if I could notice a difference. If found short ram intakes, but I dont think they give much of a gain, any help would be appreciated.

You have caught cold air intake fever.
It will do more harm than good in the long run.
A good way to get cold air intake is to head up the road when the tempt is about 20 below 0 degrees.
But if you have just got to have it you can put a tuner on your intake air sensor and get the same effect.
Telling the engine it has cold air comming in only makes it run richer on fuel mix.
Save your money up for a good tune up.

tuner on the intake sensor? I've never heard of that. What i it and does it help with power? Why do you say cold air intake does harm? ARE they particularly bad for escorts?

Interesting. Don't know the answer but cool air is denser and contains more oxygen. Seems like it would run better. But like I said, I don't know.

The oem air intake system has a maf sensor and a IAT sensor. That controls fuel mix. When you go messing around with it you run the risk of messing up your fuel mixture.
The IAT tempture tuner adjusts the intake air tempture reading to tell the computer that there is colder air comming in then it really is.
Or in other words make the fuel mix richer.
Also some air filters used on cold air intakes are a different story to.

I do not think they actually bring in much cooler air but some of them are setup with a adjustable intake air sensor setup to make the pcm think the air is cooler.
Or it gives a little richer mix to the injectors.
Which might give the engine a little more pep on take off.
But beware messing with the fuel mix can have long term bad effects on the engine and even the cats.

You are right! Until I go back to school and get a degree in mechanical engineering I will assume the automotive engineer at Ford knows a little more than I do about how to build intake systems. There was a federal mandate for better fuel mileage accross the board for the big 3 auto makers. Cars like the Escort were maxed out on mileage to offset higher consumption of the bigger cars and trucks. Taking your golf clubs out of the trunk will increase your mileage and performance, but you can't get better mileage and increased performance at the same time with cold ram air. If somebody out there thinks I'm wrong, post and let me know how to increase my mileage and performance at the same time.
