clutch
just wondering, whats the easiest (or best?) way to get the tranny to bolt back up to the engine (my car is a 89 240).
my friends and i tried using 2 jacks on the front and rear of the transmission, but it didnt help, since the trans kept tilting on one side and the bell housing would hit the bottom of the firewall, any suggestions?

Re: Re: clutch
use just one big jack in the very front of the transmission... and use your hands in the back of the transmission to control the angle.... you will need 2 people for this.... the guy in the back of the transmission who controls the angle of it and the guy in front of the transmission who helps guide the tranny into the clutch/flywheel/engine/guides....
Also, if you do have 2 jacks, or even if you don't, make sure that in some way you get the front of the engine lifted up as high as possible so that the engine tilts/angles UP in the front and obviously DOWN in the back so that you have a better angle for the tranny to slide towards the engine... |

*********************************8 Well, the engine on my car only tilts as much as the firewall lets it... when the top of the engine hits the firewall that's all you can tilt it.... i never had to loosen the motormounts at all... so just get it in maximum tilt position and try my instructions above... another word of advice is, to bash in the firewall/sheetmetal a little bit, ... this is on the car, not the tranny (dont hit the tranny ok ? ;-) )... take a bigger, heavy hammer and bash the sheet metal especially around where the big bell housing of the transmission goes, and especially in the spot where the starter goes... this will give you an extra inch or so.... and the more room the better... always.. |

Re: clutch
cmon trannys arent that heavy just get a frient to help and its way easier with 2 people lifting than 2 jacks
do the tilting thing with the engine too, then when the tranny's on, jack the whole thing up and connect all mounts, then connect the driveshaft, shifter, and harnesses.

Re: clutch
im assuming you have a cherry picker. if you dont, i feel sorry for you(read: go buy one). try having someone stand on the back of the motor. its so much easier when you can move the motor.

Re: clutch
