Post '95 tahoe

I am looking into buying an '95 Tahoe for very, very cheap and was wondering what potential problems I might run into. Body-very good, motor-seems good, needs cat. convert. So I am told. I will be using to haul kids to and from hockey in winter, and hopefully camper in summer. It has a bunch of miles (212,000), but that doesn't really bother me. I have a 3/4 ton chev pu with 252,000 still running good other than intake gasket.(I think) Any info greatly appreciated.

thanks, merc

Well I took a look at it last night. It has been sitting for about a month and a half. Wouldn't start when I got there. Had to jump it. After about 1/2 hour of leaving hooked up, and engine heater plugged in, it finally started. It showed just under 14 amps. Ran for about an hour. Took it for a drive and everything felt good. Needs exhaust from manifolds back, alternator???? & battery, didn't pull cable, froze to the bone and crabby. Also needs a thermostat??? would never really warm up, could it be stuck open? Minor dent in back drivers door. Needs new inner handle pass door, tune up and maybe new treads. I can get for 1000.00 yea or nea I could use some opinions please.

thanks again,

merc

I would buy it, if worse came to worse, just for parts. If it sat that long it will need some major TLC. I've got a 95, had to put about $750 into it to bring it up to my expectations. Great truck since then. Expect the front diff seals to be leaking, oil cooler lines and oil filter adapter to be leaking, the manifold gasket will eventaully need replaced (siting for so long did not help it) and then the other things you noted will help for sure. If the battery cable ends are no good, replace the whole cable, all the way to the fuse center. It is a little pricey, but that will end any other problems later on.

Like a said, major TLC, but I would buy it.
