abs problems

the abs braking system on my '92 lesabre has been acting up...the pump or servo or valve or whatever makes the abs work is randomly engaging. while driving i can hear the abs randomly pulsating, which is irritating but i can live with it...but, when i'm braking it will also randomly engage. the brake peddle instantly firms up and the brakes grab. the first time it happened i had trouble getting out of the car because my posterior puckered up so tight that a vacuum formed between me and the seat...

also, the abs light came on this summer, about 2 weeks after i bought the car, doink, and i let it stay because i don’t really like abs and didn’t really like the idea of spending a grand to get it fixed. anyway, since this random abs thing started the idiot light has gone out. any thoughts? please advise.

oh, and if you see me on the road don’t tail gate me unless you're wearing a helmet....

thanks,
caveman

I hear you on this ABS problem. I'd be glad if the ABS light just stayed on forever. I had it act up last night in stop and go traffic. It was a very uncomfortable feeling having the ABS pump while on dry pavement. I pulled off a conector to a rear wheel sensor to disable the system until I can fix the problem or decide to disable the ABS for good. I've always driven with 'normal brakes' and have never been impressed with this particular system. If a wheel sensor is disconnected....the ABS computer will see a loss of continuity and set a code (ABS light) and render the system normal. I'd like to hear if there's a better way to disable the system than pulling a wheel sensor plug.
