Question Another Probe problem

I have a 93 probe GT 2.5 V6. I had it looked at three different auto shops an they couldn't find the problem. It is real hard to start, but when it is started i have to keep pumping the gas to keep it alive. when I drive it down the road it cuts out alot and alot of black smoke is coming out of my exhaust. one person said its flooding its self, another said its the distributor, another guy traced all of the damn wires in the car. but the never told me what was realy wrong. They always said it might be this....., maybe the distributor... my friend has a probe with the klze an his is doing about the same an he said it might be the injector. Can anyone help me out?

Re: Another Probe problem

Sounds like the distributor. The 93 and 94 years had/have and ongoing problem with the distributor that was fixed in the 95 and newer years. The 95/96/97 distributor will fit your car. The fact that black smoke is being emitted means of course that the thing is running ritch and that is likely something to do with ignition. Also, before you replace the distributor check the wires. I was talking to a mechanic who worked for a ford dealership the years that the probe was made. He told me that sometimes the valve cover gaskets would leak allowing oil to fall into the recesses that the spark plugs are in. eventually enough oil would accumulate that a short would occur resulting in a misfire. My own 95 had a misfire at high rpm and I traced it to a crack in hard bakelite spark plug lead. Make sure there is no cracks in any of the leads and make sure there is no oil in the recesses the plugs are in. A note to all of us with the 2.5 engine. If only a little oil accumulates in those recesses, just a slight missfire can occur, maybe not even noticeable in day to day driving, but if unburnt fuel leaks into the exhaust, it accumulates in the catalitic converter and will cause it to fail, and those are expensive to fix. Make sure there is no oil around your spark plugs. By the way if anyone needs a distributor I have an extra that I pulled out of a 95 that had been written off in an accident. It was owned by a friend and the car was running well until the accident. Email me if you are interested.
