CEL codes P0401 and P0463

I have two codes, the 401 for the EGR and 463 for the sending unit. I took some of the advice here and cleaned the the EGR with carb cleaner. Light is still on. I guess the question I have is, what if the needle still sticks on the valve? I soaked the EGR and left it for a few minutes. When I push the valve in with a pen it will stick and then once I give the valve a little shake the pin comes back down. Do i need to leave it soaking for longer or get a new valve.

Also with the sending unit code. My gas gauge reads fine so I am not sure there. If there are any other suggestions on the valve cleaning, please let me know. Thanks!

Work the pintle as your spraying it until it opens and closes without hanging up. Did you remove the neg. battery cable when doing the cleaning? That will clear the codes.

I unplugged the battery negative terminal. Do I need to have the thing running? I took the EGR off and sprayed it like crazy. Some of what I have read doesn't make sense such as plugging the hole and such. I'll take any advise. Thanks!

Click the link above. There are some good pictures in it. After you take the EGR off, clean it and set it aside. Now, back in the area you removed the EGR from are two holes. The larger one is the hole you plug and the other you shoot the cleaner into.

You need the car running to do this, you may need a partner to help. A lot of people say they don't, but I do, mine stalls quick. After you button it all back up, disconnect the negative terminal on the battery to clear the codes.

Well I have the EGR pintle working fine, now I have to try and plug the hole and spray he carb cleaner down the other hole. Anything I need to know before I do it? Am I going to catch myself on fire? Will the Rodeo try and stall once I put the carb cleaner in? Thanks in advance!

Hold the throttle plate open (engine off, key out!), watch the EGR outlet pipe with a flashlight, keep spraying the small hole on the EGR base until the black junk is flushed out of the line. You'll be clean as a whistle then. If nothing comes out, I'd snake it out with a pc of wire first.

This is one of the first times that I have actually really been under the hood to mess with things. Where is the throttle plate at? That seems to be a little safer than having it running. To clear the CEL, do I need to unplug the negative while the Rodeo is running? Didn't seem to work without t running. I appreceiate the help!

Pop the plastic 'beauty' cover up/off the top of the engine. Follow the large black air intake tube to the front of the engine where it is clamped to the aluminum throttle body. Loosen the clamp and slide the air intake tube off the throttle body. The throttle plate is inside the bore on the throttle body. You can push right on the plate with your finger to open it, or actuate it at the side linkage. Look insite the throttle body (T-plate open) w/ a flashlight and you will see where the EGR tube exits in there. It's about a 1/4 to 3/8" dia pipe, about center bottom.

Alright, I tried spraying carb cleaner in the smaller tube, but i couldn't really see all that great inside the throttle body to see if there was any fluid coming out. Not sure where to go from here. I am going to go to Harbor Frieght and get me a code reader. I am tired of going to autozone. Thanks for the help. I tried removing the negative while the vehicle was on and off and the ode won't clear.

Alright, I cleared the codes and they came back about 45 minutes later. Any other cleaning techniques for the EGR? The EGR itself seems to be just fine, pintle moving freely...do I just need to keep trying to clean it? Thanks in advance.
