97-99 Reliability

from those of you who love these cars and who own them. im looking for input on the reliability of these model Cadillacs. Ive been looking at these for some time now, and plan on buying one before too long

I really want a 93 Sedan DeVille, but im noticing that the 97's are as cheap as the 93's.
this brings up one concern, are the newer cars (97-99), with the Northstar, built as well and as reliable as the old 91-93 with the 4.9 liter.

I buy cars to keep, and the 91-93 have a great track record against repairs and they commonly reach 300k with no major problems. Does anyone know if the 97-99 Northstar has the same kind of record, along with other interior parts, such as heating and air.

Thumbs down

Your way better off the the older 4.9L. I worked for Cadi for 3 years and the 4.6 Northstar sucks. We were having to re-seal the bottom end of many of these cars, starting at around 30k miles. I think only one of our customers came close to 300k miles, maybe 275k when the head gaskets went. These engines run hotter then the older 4.9 and simply don't last as long in my opinion. However, you do give up a lot of power when going to the old 4.9L.

I have owed 5 cadillacs my first was a 85 eldorado, then 79 seville, 90 deville, 93 deville, and now 99 deville. I will tell you from experience that I have had my fair problems with every one of them. My 99 like the other guy said has alot of power, I love the northstar engine and i have over 150,000 miles on it, my 93 was great to if you want to see them look on www.cardomain.com my user name is marquisusn look it up my cars are beautiful. go with the what you want just be carefull if you buy used just think to yourself why are they selling it? You will have problems no matter what.
