Question X5 strange whining sound

Hello I have a 2001 X5 BMW.

I am experiencing a whining sound when starting my car up in the morning. It appears to go away after it warms up after 15 mins. I do hear it some times when turning right.

Thanks

You have the 3.0 model? You need an updated belt tensoner. They go for about 100-200$ installed at a dealer.

.first, the whinning sound could be the air pump which is electrically operated which only runs when engine is cold, sits on the right side of engine compartment,,is there a squealing type noise cold also?could be alt belt and tensioner,i advise to bring to dealership and let them start it cold to isolate problem, expericing the noise when it happens is a big help to a technician espcilly on a bmw ,
