heater fan making lots of noise
I have a 2002 Sunfire coupe and the heater/ac fan started making a bunch of noise last night. It sounds like it pulled in some foreign matter and it is stuck in the blower or something. I had the resistors replaced and the blower cleaned when it was under warranty, and now it is out of warranty I wonder oif someone can tell me how to take apart the blower area or something to be able to clean it out myself. It sounds like the noise is under the glovebox. Any fan speed. Is this something easy to do, and is there any links or instructions anyone has to do it?

Re: heater fan making lots of noise
Your problem is with the fan motor itself the bearing in the motor is going bad. You can possibly salvage it by removing the motor and fan and lubricating the bearing with a little 3 in 1 oil or other light oil. If you want to replace it I would try a local wrecking yard. Car-part.com is a good source for wrecking yards all over the country.

Re: heater fan making lots of noise
thanks - do you know if there are any good clear directions for removing this motor? - I havent found any on the forum. If not on the web, what manual would you recommend, Haynes, Chiltons, other?

Re: heater fan making lots of noise
Personally I like Chiltons, more illustrations. A lot of folks prefer the Haynes, I have both and like Chiltons better. As for the fan the best way is to remove the passenger seat and lay in the foot well. This will allow you to get to the fan under the dash. It only takes three screws. I believe they are 5.5 mm to remove.
