Re: 4x4 auto 98 blazer will not shift into 3rd or 4th gear

You are wasting your time and money on trying to outfigure it.
Get it on a trans/engine capable scanner and find out what it is before you drive yourself nuts.
The old could be this and could be that doe not get the job done.

I took the truck to a transmission specialist and the verdict from him was " I cant tell anything from the outside it needs to be rebuilt" with a quote for $1700-$2200. I do not believe him though. What do you think?
I had no previous signs of trouble before my 3rd and 4th gear just went out altogether, and the gears left shift fine no clunk nor slippage just no gears past 2nd. fluid still looks good and no codes

Re: 4x4 auto 98 blazer will not shift into 3rd or 4th gear

One thing I would like to add... I called for a quote in my area an for $1850 installed. I can get a HD tranny with all posible upgrades (Vette servos, kevlar everything, etc). There should be no problem narrowing down a good (almost exact) quote with one of the most popular transmission every tranny shop sees.

If you do need a rebuilt trans go for the GM factory rebuilt unit 3 year 50K parts and labor warranty good at any GM dealer. They are complety factory updated and ready for the road.

I do recall the tranmission not wanting to shift into 3rd without high rpms foe awhile b4 this happened any ideas. It was not sluggish nor did it slip or make a hard shift just would not shift until about 40-45 mph now nothing at all

Re: 4x4 auto 98 blazer will not shift into 3rd or 4th gear

Well I found my problem. 3-4 clutch pack failure. Suck. I'm going with a used tranny and sayin by by to the blazer. I think I'm going to get another subaru. The mpg in my blazer suck and I don't need to tow anymore. I hope you find your problem.. I was told my problem is VERY common. I found a used reman with a 10k on it for 400 bucks
(just for a reference).

Spasticone
Thanks for posting back and letting us know how it went.
Glad you found the problem with it.

Stauandray
I am not sure about a CP9135 scanner but if it will read trans and engine data it is trans capable.
All trans capable scanners will read trans data and codes and also do some test on them.
I use a snap on MT-2550 but there is other good scanners out there to.
You just have to get into the trans pcm data to be able to see what is going on.
Good luck
