Re: noise in engine
Lifter tick is not engine threatening at all, just annoying. I have heard that a ticking noise can be caused by a warped exhaust manifold and something about either the manifold rocking back and forth or the valve seating can be heard because of the leak around the manifold, but I cant remember which.

Re: noise in engine
I believe most used motors that come from wreakers have a three month warenty, at the very least they should give back half your money you spent on the engine. Bring your problem to them.

Re: noise in engine
i dont think so, i know a engine will lock with too low oil, lifters tick when they are getting too old , then they can break and bounce arround and well .... not a good thing

Re: noise in engine
I've never heard of lifters breaking due to lack of oil, and I seriously doubt they will. Ask any DSMer (lifter tick is very common in DSMs), its not a big deal.

Re: noise in engine
You're deffinately right on that one! You might find that fully synthetic Lucas oil stabilizer will quiet it down a little.

Re: noise in engine
the lifter will tick because the oil broke down at one point and there is residue on the side of the lifter and it gets stuck in its bore.....those little things are tight in there to begin w/.....
It could be something like a headgasket tho or exhaust gasket depending on the type of "ticking" it is....but if its a simple little ticking noise, then its probably just the lifters....
