The '96 and up were not any more dependable than the earlier trucks, if anything they were more troublesome and costly. Examples such as the transmission valve body problems, the earlier trucks did not have those problems, if you don't have a scanner for the newer trucks, and your ses light comes on, be prepared to spend some money - the older trucks all you need is a paper clip to read the codes. Parts in general cost more on the second generation trucks, than do the first gen trucks, with the exception of the CPI unit, but you can't classify that as a first gen problem, because they were used in the '95's also, the '96 and up injecter system had a whole load of problems also, from sticky poppet nozzles to leaking units.

Take a look at the '92 for sure, if the '93 needs a new engine, forget it.

If you want a Blazer would suggest you keep looking. If I remember you said the 92 had 180,000 miles? The motors are good for 200-250000 PLUS miles, but a 13-14 year old truck with 180000 miles will dollar you to death. Might be OK for an occasional truck, but you can find a better deal elsewhere for that kind of money - especially with gas like it is.
