Random Misfire
I have a 2000 Mazda Mpv which is indicating a random misfire code P0300. I have changed the spark plugs which helped, and then replaced the coil pack...but it still running rough. Does anyone have any advice as to what could be the problem? Please respond !! Thanks JK

To get to everything a bit better, I took off the upper intake manifold. Wow! What a mess. The EGR passageway looked totally plugged. Hard, dry build-up. I don't no why there was no related code. Quite a cleaning job. I don't know exactly what caused all this carbon build-up. Also ended up removing the intake "spacer" (?, the aluminum piece that includes the runner control butterflys.) PCV path looks OK, but I'm gonna replace valve just in case. Hope to get running again today or tomorrow. Did you ever find your problem? |

Re: Random Misfire
A little update ...
After new plugs, cables, and upper manifold cleaning: I finally got the MPV back together ... well, "together" enough to try out. It runs great! And the engine light went out. But it idles high. I noticed the IAC valve was a bit dirty ... I didn't clean it as that would have introduced another variable. Think I will now clean the IAC. |

Another update ...
Before I could clean the IAC, a new code showed up. P0507. All makes sense. Cleaned the IAC, and then engine idled down .. and the light went back out after a few miles. |
