How do you change the tail light on a 98 Escort?

I tried changing my tail light this weekend but I was unable to get it off . I unscrewed it but the top part has two screws with covers on them that I couldn't get off. What do I have to do?

You have pulled the two screws on the inside of the lens, right? On the part of the lens that wraps around the side of the car there is a pin on the outside that goes into the body. Take the palm of your hand and hit the back of the lens moving it towards the outside of the car as you hit it. It should just pop off. Do that or you can slide a screwdriver (cover it up on the end with some cloth so you don't scratch the paint) under the part that's going into the side and get it out far enough to grasp with your hand and wiggle it out. There is just a that pin going into the side of the car where the lens wraps around on it on the outside.
