89 escort GT 5 speed clutch help!?!
I just installed a new clutch in an 89 gt. Problem is this: It seems like when I put the transmission up to the motor, the lever that the clutch cable pulls back and forth that controls the throwout bearing gets locked too far forward to put the clutch cable to. I have taken off the transmission 5 times now and I am just plain tired of this, because when you put it all back together completely, the clutch cable does not reach. It seems to me the lever throws much further but when I put the tranny back on the car, it doesn't seem to work properly. Am I missing something here? The clutch is installed properly and is new, as well as the throwout bearing. Help!

Re: 89 escort GT 5 speed clutch help!?!
Try this,, have someone pull up towards the dash on the clutch pedal. This action releases the cable and allows you to pull it out far enough to get it on the lever. Cycling the pedal will adjust the clutch.

You sound way too smart to not have thought of this but is there an adjustment somewhere that will make the cable longer? If I understand you, the only problem is the cable is too short. Could be an automatic adjuster somewhere that has shortened because of wear on the old clutch. Could be down at the clutch pedal itself. Just speculation on my part. Good luck!
