Coolant leak at front of intake!
While looking around after changing oil on our 1993 4.3L 6 cyl the other day I noticed a coolant leak at the front of the intake. I have changed out several intake gaskets on 350 motors but not on the six. I know the Vortec 350's were notorious for leaking at the back of the intake. I currently have one right now that I need to do for a guy. However on this truck have not had any issues. Truck has 168,000 miles on it, would it hurt to wait until the new year? Getting really covered up with my real job, working on others cars and of course the holidays. I just don't want to do anything that would harm it, I need the truck to make it one more year if you know what I mean!

Re: Coolant leak at front of intake!
I have "gotten by" in situations like these by taking the radiator cap loose one notch so the system cant build pressure thus forcing out anti-freeze but you must be careful not to over exert the cooling system by driving to hard or in too harsh of conditions or it will boil over because the pressure your cooling system builds also keeps it from boiling over. But you can get by for a while as long as it is only leaking to the out side and you religiously check your coolant.

10/4 I refuse to use the red also. I have converted my whole stable to green. I had an issue with the red eating up the water pump seals in my 96 Impala, and with all the motor mods on that car I can not afford to lose a water pump. The leak in front is just a trickle, so I think I will be all right for now. Thanks! |
