XM radio, is it worth it?

Right now I have a Sony HU that is xm ready and I was wondering what other equipment I had to buy if any and if any of you guy have it and if you like it. The HU I have now plays mp3's so that cool, but after the same cd's about a hundred times it gets kinda boring, so what do you guys think??

yeah. My boss has XM radio in the restaurant i work at. i was very disappointed by the "repetitiveness" you still get from most of the stations and the somewhat annoying XM advertising they have. i still like it though. Top Tracks 46, XM Cafe 45, Hear Music 75, and the 90s 9 are my top station picks. If you have cds and mp3 disc I actually would still get it. If you don't listen to the XM every day, say maybe once or twice a week I would do it for sure. XM still has a lot of variety IMO. I love all kinds of music but, for some reason, I have some infactuation with 90s hits cuz that's when i grew up and was listening to the radio back then and found a lot of old hits that i love and ended up buying on itunes.com. Your deck is XM ready so you just need an antenna and a subscription i believe.

Ya, I drive everyday for atleast an hour a day, sometime 3 or 4 hours a day, so it might not work very well. In your opinion is it any better than regular free radio, just with out the commercials, or you said xm plays their own ads. And if I do decide to get it have any of you guys runs that antenna through your windshield? Thats the only thing that scares me. I'm fine running new wiring and all that but breaking seals that could cause leaks kinda scares me.

personally, I HATE free local radio stations just cuz i think its more repetitive than XM. it isn't TOO horrible, you may hear one song every day for 3 days or you may hear it a week later. they still have a lot of music to throw at ya. yes, XM plays their own ads, mosty just telling you to check out www.XMradio.com. i don't know anything about the wiring for XM in a car, but i would think you could use the existing wire routing for the stock radio.

Re: XM radio, is it worth it?

XM > Local radio

i will give it that.

and of the 147 chanels or w/e they advertise alot are empty chanels when there are no sporting events and others are lame assed talk show stations.
the XM adds arent bad, there is one like 20sec one every 6-8 songs or something. not like local radios that have 15min of music and then 10min of commercials.

Re: XM radio, is it worth it?

When i had XM i mostly listened to the comedy stations. I had it for a couple months and decided it wasnt worth paying every month to listen to the radio. Local works just fine for me when im not listenin to cds.

Re: XM radio, is it worth it?

I personally like Sirius better, they seem less repetative and i like the stations better. On my computer i just keep downloading the free 3 day trial and did the same thing with XM. Peace-

Re: XM radio, is it worth it?

If i could go back i would have never gotten XM, waste of money IMO. Could have saved a couple hundred bucks.

I agree with you and i even haven't listened to SIRIUS yet. They are the one that is completely commercial free and i hear the rap stations are better than XM (lot of dirty south) but offers a few less channels overall.
