2001 Impreza RS Timing Chain or Belt and Warranties??

Does the 1999 - 2001 Impreza RS have a timing chain or belt? Is it easy or cheap to change, and what are the intervals for change? Does anyone know what the factory warranty is for the Impreza for engine and drivetrain? Im about to buy a 2001 with 42k miles on it, and I want to know if anything is still covered. Thanx

Unless the car was purchased with an extended warranty, it is completely out of warranty.

The Subaru engine uses a timing belt, it's easy to access at the front of the engine and really easy to replace.
30,000 mile change interval is reasonable.

Scooby's timing belt has a recommended interval of 105,000 miles. I did mine all by myself over the summer. Takes about 2 hours.

Here's a DIY:

and a good site (forums) for this car:
