Where is my gas tank?
I have an 86 SE V6 car with an intermitant starting problem (seems to ba a lot of thoese on this board..)
I have a replaceemnt fuil pump and screen, but cannot locate where the gas tank is. I see the fuil line heading towards the center tunnel, and suspect it is in that general area.. but how do I get to it? Are there any tricks to reaching the fuil pump? |

Re: Where is my gas tank?
The tank is indeed in the tunnel. I highly recommend you get a service book before diving in. Even the Haines or Chilton "cheepie" books at Advance Auto can help you. The Pontiac Service Manual would be the best one.
The pump is inside the tank. You'll have to drain the tank first. Raise the car about 2' off the ground. Using a floor jack to support it, loosen the straps that hold it up. It will want to fall out. There are some lines and wires attached. Don't allow them to hold the weight of the tank. Take the round panel loose from the top. It has the pickup.screen attached inside, as well as the pump itself. Reverse the process. Jim |
