Angry 1999 Suburban

Need help on 1999 Suburban.
First started with the door locks, locking by themselves and unlocking by themselves. Then the side view mirrors along with the inside lights not working. The fuse was replaced and the mirrors and such began working again. The following day the car was dead. We replaced the battery and Alternator, to which the car ran for one day and was dead again the next. The car has been in the shop for 8 days now, and the mechanic says there is an electrical pull on the Alternator while the car is turned off. He has had a hard time locating the exact harness to which is drawing on the car. Has anyone out there had such a problem and does this sound right? Desperate for some answers!

Re: 1999 Suburban

Somebody on here just posted his resolution to a mysterious battery drain problem: It was the (mercury) switch that turns on the hood lamp when the hood is lifted. It was coming on when he parked his burban on an incline.......

Re: 1999 Suburban

I had the same problem, it was the dome lights coming on by themselves at any time. push the dome override switch for a few days and see if that stops the drain, if so it is probably one of the door switches. On mine it was the passenger side front, $5.99 at autozone.

Thanks for the info. These makes perfect sense on both counts. New house with driveway on a hill. I did use the overide and it did not drain. It spent 5 days at the shop, they could not chase it down, but their lot is flat! Can you tell if the door switch is bad? Can you override the Mercury switch? Thanks again.

Re: 1999 Suburban

Just remove the bulb or peek under the burb at night when parked in your driveway see if you see the light on. Heres the original post for reference:

Re: 1999 Suburban

I didn't know how to check the switches. I just replaced the drivers side front, that didn't help so I replaced the pass side, that fixed it. The dome override doesn't effect the under hood light so if that was the problem it would have still drained. Still it would pay to take a look from underneath at night and see if it is on.
