New here...

Well i know absoultely nothing about PTcruisers but will be inheriting one in the fall. My grandparents are turning over their 04 white limited to me. It has 12K miles on it. Is there anything i should be worried about them engine wise, knows problems, faulty head gaskets like on GM's? Anything along those lines. Its going to become my new daily driver so i can park my cav away for sunny summer days. How bad is the body roll in them. I am not lookin to upgrade anything on it, since my cavalier takes up that place? Thanks in advance guys/girls!

Most places on AF are dead.

My '02 PT Touring edition with 5 speed is at 62k miles and has had no problems at all in that time. there were issues with early model PCV systems, and with the earlier automatic trannys, as well as mysteriously appearing tape markes on the black bumpers. But the '04 won't have those issues. Should be a great daily driver. But beware, the non-turbo examples with automatic trannies are slooooow.

Re: New here...

I agree; unless it's a Turbo or at least a manual tranny, you'll wish you had more oomph. It's a very reliable car; Consumer Reports rates it as a "recommend buy" in their used car listings. You won't be disappointed on that front. There's tons of goodies available to hop them up. The factory brake pads make lots of dust, so the first ting I'd recommend is installing composite / low-dust pads. I use EBC green with their slotted rotors and it cured the evil black dust problem. Hahn makes a very nice Turbo kit for it if you must have more under the hood. I've got the JL StealthBox with 10" sub in the back and I highly recommend that piece as well; the Mopar factory sub & amp only make 50 watts and is a pretty weak combo. The PT Cruiser will probably grow on you if you let; and that's not such a bad thing. It's an extremely good car for the money.
Good Luck - WIN

Re: Re: New here...

PS- The Limited will probably be sprung rather soft. I've got the factory Touring suspension off my '02 car (I replaced it with Eibach Pro-Kit stuff) if you'd like to buy it. The Touring springs are a bit stiffer and about an inch lower, and the shocks/struts are Tokico's. E-mail me if yur interested.

Re: New here...

Well here she is...

I messed up and its only an 03 with 22,000 miles on her, yes she is an auto and slow as hell. My 2.2 OHV cavalier feels like it has more power than this thing. So far i hate it, it guzzels gas like a pig, and the thing is slow. O well what can ya do.... the car was free..

Re: Re: New here...

Congrats on getting the "free" car. What gas milaeage are you getting? I get 25mpg with my 5 speed. Remember it is a "cruiser" not a "dragster" so tread light on the gas.

Too bad you "hate" it - it is a cool looking car. Better lines than a Cavalier!

Use the money you saved onnot buying it to put in a turbokit.

Checkout www.ptcruisers.org for more good advice.

Re: New here...

Gosh your lucky and don't complain. I just bought a 05 pt gt and being older have had my share of fast cars. I did quite a lot of research prior and did not see any majourr complaints with these vehicles. However son I am dissappointed with the handling of this 05. Drive it with comman sence, much differently than your GM.
Good luck Wayne.

Re: Re: New here...

Eibach makes a "Pro Kit" suspension, shocks/struts & springs, for the PT. I have it on my '02 and it was HUGE transformation in the handling dept. The ride is a bit stiffer, but not objectionable to me at all. I would highly recommend it. I also went to 7"x17" lightweight wheels and 235/45/17 tires. MUCH better.

What's wrong with the handling of the GT? Iv'e been driving SCCA race cars for decades and think the PT's handling is just fine, especially considering it's role in the automotive spectrum.

I even have a few trophies for autocrossing my Touring edition one, where it was a LOT faster around the cones than it needed to be.
