Question Dash lights fail after audio upgrade

Hey campers,

I've just finished installing a cd player for a mate into a mid - 80's 323. Took a damn long time getting into the wiring ... finally got there though and the cd player is running well.

Here's the problem:
Banghead the dash lights (speedo and tacho) have stopped turning on with the headlights... My concern is that I may have caused a short and perhaps blown the bulbs, but I'm curious as to whether there was some sort of daisy-chaining with the wiring. There were two un-spoken for wires that were connected to the radio/amp near the wheel and seem to travel towards the tacho and speedo. Sounds like a long shot though.

Has anyone come across this problem before? It'd probably be a good indication that it's a wiring thing, rather than me making a pretty major mistake. Checked the fuses - all good (including the ones in the under the hood).

Thanx for taking the time and reading this! I hope you can help :-)

Cheers, Damo
