The auto parts stores here in Bakersfield, California cannot sell or order me an O2 sensor for my 89 toyota Camry. Can anyone tell me why? I need to smog vehicle.

Maybe you need a different parts store. The o2 sensor is threaded into the exhaust stream. There is only one on this car.

Could be that the just don't carry that part in stock. I got that when looking for an oil cooler 'O' ring and gasket. Can only get those through Toyota, though an O2 sensor should be available at most parts stores. Yep..shop around.

Possibly, because depending on the engine, it may not have an o2 feedback loop!
Pre 90 2vz-fe (V6) had no o2 system for whatever reason.

Both the 4 and 6 cyl engines for California for 89 had two O2 sensors. The second O2 sensor is called the sub-oxygen sensor by Toyota.
