Please explain how the skip shift works in a 6 spd T/A

Hey, well my dad and I just went for a ride in our new 6spd WS6 T/A.

My dad is complaining, saying that one of my friends messed up the gear shift(by playing with it while the car was turned off). He would try and shift into 2nd but the car wouldn't let him. I've tried explaining to him that it is the skip shift. Am I right or am I wrong?

At what RPM do you have to be at in order to shift into 2nd?
Explain in detail how the skip shift works please...

Sorry to bother you guys about this but maybe my dad will take your word over mine because he's convinced that one of my friends screwed up the gear shift when he was sitting in the car.

You are right.
Not sure of the RPM level to go around it.

Here is a thread you recently started...I gave you a link to be able to get rid of the skip shift.

Skip shift basicly is a fuel save mode. The car has enough torque to pull you ahead with traffic in 4th gear from 20 MPH....so why use a higher RPM band.
Getting rid of the skip shift was the FIRST thing I did to mine.
There is a little light on the dash. Lower right hand side of the gauge cluster. When the car won't allow you into 2nd, the light should be on.

the factory made this skip shift on purpose to pass "cafe"(gas mileage)standards. If you accelerate briskly(put your foot into it)it shifts normally.summit racing sells a kit to eliminate the skip, but Im sure there is a way to do it yourself

I would buy the kit.

You can save yourself $25-$30 by doing it yourself. Although then you have to fabricate something up to keep the elements from getting to it.
I went with the one that costs $25-$30. It is sealed and you don't have to worry about it getting beat up by weather and such. Just a little security in my opinion.

Thank you very much Mr. Luos!

Is the Thunder Racing the one you put on yours?

I've seen the SLP version of this too. Is there any difference? Is the skip shift eliminator easy to install?

Thank you guys for answering my questions...

I'm sorry...I have one more question...my dad is all about keeping this thing stock so if he decides to sell it, then the value will not have decreased because of the mods.

So if we wanted to, could we remove the skip shift eliminator easily and the T/A would function as it had before?

Yes.

And minor bolt-ons won't kill a resale price. Something like a lid and a cat-back are good for some power and won't hurt the resale at all.
If even a little worried about it, save the stock stuff.
