Bad intake gasket, If I fix it will I get better MPG
just wondering if I fixed the sucking intake gasket if it would give me a little better gas mileage. I have a 99 with a 5.2 What are the epa estimates on these things anyway. I get about 12 mpg highway without my trailer and 10 mpg pulling a 6x1o enclosed trailer with a 550 lb four wheeler in it. trailer probably weighs 1100 lbs. I know these things don't get great gas mileage but 12 on the highway come on.

Yes it will help on your Fuel economy. Your sucking more air and changing you fuel ratio. I am not sure but you may have burned up you O2 sensor as well. Not sure if it will trigger a code. And thast will keep you in cold start or closed loop in the ECM
Hope it helps. Scrindy |

Thanks, I'll check the O2 sensor out after I'm done. I have a professional scan tool that can check the sensors condition |

Getting about 14.5 on the highway now after the intake fix. so I did get better. Plus now I'm not spending money on two quarts of oil every gas fill up so all in all it was a sucess. |
