seafoam

what exactly is this stuff?

I know it cleans out the engine... but wouldnt this be bad? I mean, it takes all of the dirt out, so now there is gaps in the engine that can do some grinding... am i right?

Also, will seafoam clean the valves up (like the rockers, ect) ?

Also, do you put the whole can through the brake vacuum line? I have done searches, but havent seen these specific questions answered.

thanks

Re: seafoam

If your gaps are nothing but dirt....something was wrong with the motor long before the seafoam got in it.

I seafoam my cars once every 3 oil changes. I use 1/3 to 1/2 a can up the brake booster line at idle.
It won't clean the rockers. It will clean your valves.

Re: seafoam

thanks.

is there an easier way to clean the rockers then?

like is there some kind of special oil you can put in and run it for a while, then drain the engine?

Re: seafoam

You can seafoam your oil.

Just make sure you don't run it for too long. Change the oil out after 1-2 days.
So if you plan on seafoaming the car....seafoam the oil two days before sucking it in the brake booster.
Then let it sit. Run car until it stops smoking.

Change oil.

Re: seafoam

If you add it to a really worn out engine with worn out bores it may remove the residual oil seal in cylinders and the engine will smoke for a while. But its for those that need a rebuild and run on some tractor oil.

It does only good, because all that crap in the engine is actually harmfull for lifters, oil rings and oil pump. I say use it. I have seen cars that were neglected for a long time and craped out real fast. And the ones that were pumpered still run strong. virtually if you take a nice new 350 and fix all known manufacture flaws in the engine, it will run virtually for 400000 miles if pumpered and not abused.

Re: seafoam

thanks for all of the help.

im looking at a 3.8 camaro. The engine looked kinda dirty (and corroded and stuff) and has 92,000 miles on it.

if the person didnt really change the oil much, will seafoam hurt or help it?

if i do get it, im probably gonna take a valve cover off just to see how clean they look.

Re: seafoam

Kinda like the old GM Top end cleaner (mechanic in a can). Works miracles, smells like crap. By hooking it up to a vacuum line the engine just sucks it and the detergents clear out deposits vs. tearing the motor down and putting all the parts in a washer.

Is the seafoam as harsh on the O2 sensors? Never looked into that.
