AutoZone code read out

Hi Folks,
Codes read that cylinder # 1 and #3 were reading misfireing. The car runs fine in normal tarffic but when I floor it and at first start up, it misses quite a lot. He old me to put some Lucas fuel system in the tank but I had already put some Chevron fuel cleaner in a tank ago with no help.
Car has 37K on the clock. 2002 24 valve engine Any suggestions from the pro's ??

Thanks again for all the help this list is giving me !!

Re: AutoZone code read out

Sounds like a good candidate for new plug wires. 37k miles seems pretty low to need plug wires though. Have you pulled the #1 and #3 plugs? If not, do. See how they look. Also, inspect the plug wires. Is there any oil on the wires? If so, you might have an oil leak in the spark plug well seals causing your misfire. That's a common problem with the V-6 SHOs, not sure about the Duratecs though.

Do you have access to a scan tool with a datastream feature? If so, monitor the air fuel ratio when the misfires occur. If it goes lean, the problem probably isn't electrical but with the fuel system (injectors). If it goes rich, then the problem is probably that the plugs aren't firing.

How many coils are on your car? Do cylinders #1 and #3 share a coil by chance? If so, that coil might be your problem if you don't see any problems with your plug wires.

You also should not floor any car right after startup. All the oil is not up in the cylinders yet and the engine is not up to operating temp.
