so my friend pulls a d15b2 out of a civic he got. 90k on it. he says he'll give it to me for 50$. so i get it, and i have it already have all torn down to the bare block.
my delema is i dont even really know if it'll fit in my 86 crx si. supposedly bolts into my stock mounts. and i also still need to figure out if i have to change like everything on my car to get it to work. i figured that since hte engine from an older second, that it might bolt up to my transmition and i wont have to use any kind of adapter. am i right on any of this? i really have to figure this out if im goignt o put any more money into this engine. thanks |

Re: d15b2 swap into a 87 Si?!
It will work, you just have to use the 86-89 integra tranny, mounts, axles, hubs and shift linkage. The front mount on the drivers side will have only two of the three bolts line up but it will work.

Re: d15b2 swap into a 87 Si?!
You can put the D15B2 in your 1G, but why? You won't gain anything from this motor swap, and it will be a PITA to swap.
The D15b2 will not directly bolt up to your stock tranny. This is the reason you'll need the 86-89 Integra tranny, because the axles for the D15B2 tranny won't work in the 1G, and your D15A3 tranny won't bolt up to the D15B2. Also by using the Integra tranny you eliminate the need to custom make the tranny mounts. The bad part about using the Integra tranny is that the starter holes don't line up, so you'll need to install a helicoil insert into one of the holes in the tranny in order to bolt up the starter. But by the time you've swapped the '86-'89 D16A1 integra tranny, CV shafts and knuckles, you're half way to swapping the whole D16A1 motor! You'll need the D15B2 ECU and you'll need to rewire the engine since the wiring is not the same. You'll also need to construct your own motor mount since there is no kit for this swap. In my opinion, either stick with your MPFI D15A3 motor (it's a better motor anyway), or hold out for a D16A1 swap. BTW, the only thing you can use from the D15B2 motor in your D15A3 or D16A1 motor are the connecting rods, but there is no need to bother with them. |
