Detaching Transmission Oil Cooling Lines
Hi'ya all! I need your adivice with something.
Please take a look at the following picture and tell me how can i remove that transmission oil cooling line from the radiator? There is one more line like that going into the radiator down below as well. Ford Taurus manual says that i need to get a special tool for that, but to me it seems that it is possible to do it without that tool as well. But how exactly? It seems that there are three nuts there, hence the numbering - 1,2,3. I think that should i put a wrench on the nut #2 to hold it in place, and then put another wrench on nut #3 and turn that, then basically it should come loose. But, just in case, before rushing to do that, i wanted to consult with you all here first. If anyone has any experience with that sort of thing then any advice is much appreciated. Thank you |

Re: Detaching Transmission Oil Cooling Lines
I just cut them off and used generic hose clamps to reattach them

Re: Detaching Transmission Oil Cooling Lines
Hmmm. That's different than my '97 Taurus. Mine has plastic couplings that you can simply pinch and yank out (then snap back in). My manuals also stated that I would need a special tool - depending on which size line I had (3/8 or 5/16?). Anyway, looking at the picture, I would guess (sorry) that nut#1 is simply seated in the hole, nut#2 is holding the line into the seat so it doesn't leak, and nut#3 is just a locknut. To me, nut#3 should be up against the back of nut#2, and you should be backing off nut#3 (the picture seems to show it already is) so that you can turn nut#2 out of nut#1. I would think the more substantial nut (nut#2) would be the one you'd be removing, not nut#3 as you're guessing.
Thank you[/quote] |
