Help Please...cant Shut Car Offf

I have a 96 ford windstar GL 3.8 and it will not shut off. It seems like the ignition switch reversed itself, it will go all the way forward, and crank the car, but it will not go backwards to shut off? I had to use the emergency fuel pump in order to get it shut off b/c the fuses are not even labeled. This is some horrible engineering, my FIL is a mechanic and he said he's never seen something like this.
Any suggestions on a way to fix this with out having to spend a lot at a mechanic? I really have no money and I need my vehicle to bring my kids to school.
Is there any reset switch or anything under the panel?

It sounds like you possibly need the lock cylinder replaced. Does the outside of the cylinder turn when the key isn't in it? I had this happen on my 93 Taurus. I didn't have the shut off problem however, I did have trouble getting the key in. It would be so much easier to be there and try it for myself.

Good thinking about the fuel shut off to get the engine to stop!

It cost me 214 to fix this piece of my car. They had to take the entire steering coloum out, and replace the entire thing, He said that if I would have went to just get parts it would have cost me over 400 because it was so freaking messed up.
I hope the other person with the same problem has better luck then I did. Stupid ass fords, they break, and are expensive to fix because everything is engineered stupidly.
