Anyone replaced 98 Century front hub?

Need advice on replacing a front wheel hub on my 98 Century. I have a printout from the GM service manual, but am unclear on how to resinstall the new hub. I assume that if a wheel puller is needed to remove the old one, the new one will be a tight fit going in. Do I simply use the hub bolts to slowly and evenly draw the hub into its mounting or do I need to remove part of the front suspension and use a press on a bench to install it?

Why am I replacing it? I have a squealing sound from the right front corner of my 98 Century, sound gets much worse while making a left turn. Application of brakes has absolutely no effect on the noise, leading me to believe it's a hub going south on me. Not an urgent issue, but would rather rplace it in my garage now than on the side of the road six months from now.

Thanks in advance

Re: Anyone replaced 98 Century front hub?

Yeah, I have the GM sevice manual on it is very vague on hub removal and assembly.

I've done late model Buick Regals which is the same. Disassembly is worse than assembly. The hub and bearings should go on without trouble. The suspension will not require removal or is a press needed. The hub bolts should be torqued to 60 ft-lbs. I've had less problems using the GM OEM replacement hubs than the aftermarkets. The axle nut is around 35 - 36 mm and requires torque of 151 to 180 ft-lbs depending on brand of hub and what the hub maker recommends.

It is highly recommended to use a hub puller to get the spindle free from the hub and not use a hammer or prybar. Good luck!
