Re: Pioneer Cd Player Fit in 00 GTP
I would bet that once you install the dash adaptor kit, it will hit your shifter. Mounting depth is the problem, as GM dashes aren't real deep, and the adaptors push the radio out approximately 1 to 1-1/2" over the stock unit. Because the adaptor pushes the radio slightly higher, you may clear vertically, but it may cause your shifter to be harder to get to.

As far as clearance goes I would agree that it may hit but my guess is that the main problem will be taking the car out of park while the face is down. My main reason for posting was to say if your putting an aftermarket deck in a gtp, leave the bose amp in and buy the adapter from P.A.C. to hook up your deck to the amp. The prem sound in gtp is unsurpassed, the main problem lies in the deck itself. Factory Delco decks have a built in autoEQ/balancer that cuts the power coming out of the deck so the factory speakers aren't hurt no matter how far its turned up(turn your stereo all the way up and slowly move the bass down, you won't hear any change till you get to about half), which is crap b/c non bose systems in any GM are good for 50-75watts and the bose', a little more. Also make sure and buy the IR repeater so you can reprogram your steering wheel controls to work with an A/M deck. Both will cost you about 100-150. DO NOT USE the cheap line output converters they sell at any store those are horrible for your speakers and your amps. Have a nice day.

Oh. I've never seen a GTP model that didn't have the Bose pkg, look in your trunk right in the middle on the top where the light is. If there is a aluminum/silver box there about 4"W and 8-10"L that is the Bose amp. You are right, most dash kits (at least Metra and A.I.) will have a flat faceplate in the kit so you can mount it flush(like you buddies). Measure how deep the deck would be "Open" and how much room you have between shifter snd flush with factory deck.

I didnt see the Amp. It doesnt say it either on the Window Sticker. I just got done talking to a Crutchfield Rep. and he said that no matter what, an aftermarket CD player will stick out about an inch. Does anyone have theres flush? If u do, how did u do it?

I have yet to gut the system in my Pontiac mainly b/c it came w/ the Bose prem pkg. My '97 Express conversion has the same depth and I flush mounted a 6 7/8" deep Clarion in no prob. I just don't like how the deck sticks out, my caddy was like that and I hated it. Maybe that specific headunit is deeper than most. If you don't have Bose buy the flush mount kit and test fit it, use an old deck if you have one layin around shouldn't take but 15mins. Cheap GM dash kits are 9.88 at WalMart (if you have one near buy) and I think they come with flush, 1/2, and 1 inch bezels. Does your ride have H.U.Display and steering controls?

Re: Pioneer Cd Player Fit in 00 GTP
The mounting kit I had purchased for my 2000 GP mounts flush with the dash. I had purchase this at Best Buy I believe. As far as clearance goes I am unsure. You may have to go custom if you are set on buying that Pioneer.

Yea I have HUD and Steering wheel controls. I think my car has every option except for Bose and Onstar. The window sticker says it was $27,000 brand new, so it better have almost every option

When you upgrade to an a/m deck you will lose the info in your H.U.D (radio/cd info only). As I said previously P.A.C makes a IR repeater that is programmable to any deck that way you can use your steering controls on your Pio. If you are a fairly novice installer you might want to recruit some help, they are fairly simple but you need to drill a spot for the IR diode and run some wires. So 383 are you saying you deck flush mounted in your car? Sounds like the crutchfiel rep was reading something and has no actual knowledge of these cars.
