Did 1983 3/4 ton's have emmissions?

My 1983 silverado k2o has no signs of any kind of emissions anywhere. no check engine light, no 02 sensors, nothing. did these trucks come with emissions?

Re: Did 1983 3/4 ton's have emmissions?

they probably just had catalytic converters, a egr valve and maybe a fuel vapor canister to collect fuel vapor from the tank. How many fuel lines run along your frame? theres a main line to the pump, a return line to the tank, and a vapor line to the canister.

as for sensors... there are no engine computers on those trucks except for probably the 87 fuel injected models. everything is mechanical.

cats were not stock on a 83, you shouldn't have any problems I wouldn't think anyway.

yeah i thought it was after a certain year... its not like it matters here in nebraska with no vehicle inspections and stuff... or just take an old cat and cut it in half and stick the halves together around the pipe. if you do a good job and stuff, when a cop glances under he will see that and think its a.o.k.

I bought a 83 k20 new in 1983--It had no cats from the factory, just egr and pcv and charcoal canister. I have an 86 c20 now that had no cats from the factory.

Sounds like cv joint or u-joint bad.Jack up front end carefully and rotate front tires by hand and listen to pinpoint location of squeek. Then visually inspect the u-joints and cv joint.
