Simple Yet Effective?
Hi,
I've just finished watching a Top Gear episode (Excellent, excellent show.) and they were talking about the Dodge SRT-10. They said that they thought that it was a horrible car yet they still loved it. They loved the sheer simplicity of it and the fact that you can take it to hell and back and it will still keep running. Anyways, this got me thinking, are their any modern cars (10 years old max) that have decent performance (Sub-15 seconds in the 1/4) you can ride like hell and still have the perform, day in and day out? Also, my only really requirement is that they are under $15,000ish. Anyways, list away! Thanks! |

Re: Simple Yet Effective?
no car can really take a beating day in and day out and not have problems. You beat any engine its gonna have problems.
So no there is no car for you |

Re: Simple Yet Effective?
Mid-Late 90's Z28 seem to be hardy vehilces. I know the older Z-28's (late 80's, pre LS1) could be taken to hell in back every day and still run.
It survived my brothers friend shawn who you could hear squealing tires when comming off of Tuskawilla on to Dike road (we lived right across from Lake Howell HS). every day when i lived in orlando. then my brother bought it and other than minor mehcanical problems it had no major needs and the small things where from it being a nearly 15 year old car w/ over 150,000 miles on it and he drove it just like shawn did. Ummmm Nissan Maximas are 14 sec cars, but their longevity i have no experence with. Here are cars off the top of my head that are in your budget and im either positive of pretty sure are sub 15 cars. -3000GT VR4 -Talon TSI (dude drove one of these heavily modded and worked for my dad that ran mid 12's when he uped the boost and he drove it every day to work for over a year before it started having small anoying problems from him shoving like 18psi down its throught every friday at the track when he sold it for an STi) -Mustang GT -3rd Gen RX-7 (reliable if you know how to take care of them and even still are on the top end of your price range because they are so sought after) -Supra (see above) -im having a brain fart...someone take over. |

Re: Simple Yet Effective?
Any Honda will do just fine as long as you change the oil and the timing belt.

Re: Simple Yet Effective?
Beat on my car since day one. I went WOT at least 4-5 times a day on the way to school when it was NA. Did that for a year. NTM when I just went driving...
Since turbo, I boost daily. These past few days, I have been doing WOT prolly 10 times a day, a few 3,4,5 pulls tuning my AVC-R. Normally, I would say on average, I boost twice a day. 10psi most of the time. Its been turboed for approx 1 year and 2 months. Changed the oil on time, run the good stuff(Mobil 1 full synthetic 10w-30 w/mobil synthetic element filter. Ran 16 flat bone stock. Now the best I have gotten is a 13.4, but I've trapped 109. Prolly looking at trapping 110 now since I am pushing a lil more boost. stock, I'd say a 1g dsm... They take a fucking beating too.. And going fast a lot doesn't mean your engine will wear out quicker.. It just means you have to take matinence a lil more seriously. Oil changes on time, replace sensors BEFORE they go bad or at least catch them very early, tune ups, ect.

Re: Simple Yet Effective?
a vr4 will not take a beating, and I'm pretty sure that the rx7s aren't all that reliable either... I say get a 240sx and turbo it... my 300zx z31T was pretty damn reliable for the time I had it, and from the other guys I talk to, theirs have been good to them too... they're not sub 15 second cars stock though

Re: Simple Yet Effective?
I say whatever you get, make sure you know the limits of the car and keep it full of GOOD oil, not dollar general 1/2 off shit, the Mobil 1, run a good filter, and keep everything maintained. Most anything will take a beating if it is kept up well.
And do not say that sensors going bad is unreliable. Every car needs the O2 sensor replaced on occasion...
