e-test, keep failing
I have gone for me e-test twice now and have failed both times. Currently I am failing on all three tests on the "high speed" portion with high readings. The EGR valve and oxygen sensor have been changed which did improve my readings but not enough. It was suggested that it may be the catalytic (???) converter but we have had that checked out and it is fine. Any ideas or thoughts????

Re: e-test, keep failing
Prior to your next test, try to burn up as much fuel in the tank, then put in a higher octane gas with some injector cleaner. Also let the van warm up a good time before the test , don't let them test while it is cold if possible. This worked for an old Mazda that I had, and it came out of the test very well.

e-test, keep failing
Thanks, I should have mentioned that I did almost drain my gas tank and then filled it half way with high octane and drove it for a couple of days before the test. I also live an hour away from the Drive clean location so it was warmed up quite well by the time I got there. The injector cleaner I'm not sure about as I know there was something called Seafoam (I think) was sent thru a vaccuum line and cleaned out carbon. Any more ideas??

Re: e-test, keep failing
Do you have a code? IE is the CEL illuminated?
I don't know what they test in your area but where I am there are three items: NOX CO HC NOX - is due to high combustion temperatures which is normally EGR related. CO - is normally catalytic related HC- is usually due to air/fuel ratios. I hope this is helpful. (The above is my opinion only) |

Re: e-test, keep failing
If the EGR ports have not been cleaned....that could also be the problem....as you seem to be looking at the EGR system. The EGR valve is not a high failure item....however, the DPFE is. The DPFE should light up a code if it is bad. The EGR ports could be borderline....and not light a code.......They tend to clog at the ports closest to the EGR valve....and the ports farthest away are the last to clog. My '96 did not light a code until only 2 ports were not clogged.....I still had enough EGR flow to not light a code.....but Cylinders #1 and #4 were getting all the EGR flow....and I got a misfire code on Cylinder #4.
I have pictures of the EGR ports (clogged and unclogged ) on my '96 3.8L at http://community.webshots.com/album/201931518cScpNK |
