INSURANCE for new drive 2dr stick

hi. well im having trouble find a car that i really like. i want atleast a TWO DOOR and i do want a stick shift. my mom keeps telling me my insurance will be HIGH beacuse 1 im only 16. 2. its probably going to be a honda. 3. if you get a 2dr and/or stick itll be even higher. my question was HOW MUCH HIGHER Would it be if i bought a 2dr and/or stick. we have 21st centry and i tried getting quotes but they wouldnt let me beacuse its only for a new person and plus u needed to know what car it was, year, mileage ETC.

thanks

Re: INSURANCE for new drive 2dr stick

Depends on where you live.

Here in Saskatchewan, where we have public, government insurance (god bless it), I pay the same amount for insurance being 21, owning a brand new red 2dr cobalt coupe with a spoiler with a stick, as a 45 year old would with a 4 door grey cobalt without a spoiler in an automatic.

In Ontario, where I am orginally from, I would be paying up the butt for insurance as it is private.

So it depends. If you live in a juridiction where the insurance is private, being 16, you will most definitely pay more for a 2 door with a stick than a 4 door with auto.

Re: INSURANCE for new drive 2dr stick

Oh, HOW much more is not something anyone here can tell you. Your rates (if insurance is private) are based on a whole shwack of different variables: car, doors, transmission, your age, your parents age, how much you make, how much they make, the mood of the quoter, the earth's axis, etc etc.

You can always try an online quote with numerous different insurance companies for some of the cars you're interested in.

Re: INSURANCE for new drive 2dr stick

Last post, promise

In Ontario, my Chrysler Cirrus cost me (between 17 and 20 years of age) around 2500 bucks a year to insure. This is with a spotless driving record, with driving school, being female, and driving a 4 door auto in pink. It was not unheard of for other young people in my circle of friends and aquaintances to be paying 5000 a year for a two door stick, even if the car was more than 10 years old.

In Sask, I'm paying less than 1500 a year for my brand spankin new cobalt. Here, the CAR is insured, NOT the person. They do NOT assess risk (they might charge a surcharge if you've had an accident when you go to renew however, but its usually less than 100 bucks a year, a one time thing). My mom freaked out on me when I told her I chose a red two door with a spoiler with a stick. I asked the insurance people, and they said it costs the same amount to fix a red car as it is a black one, so it really doesn't matter what colour or options you get, or your age, its always covered for the same amount across the board.

I love this province, for the way insurance works alone.

Re: INSURANCE for new drive 2dr stick

Acutally, a lot of insurance companies don't know wheter your car is an automatic or a manual because in many cars that information is not contained in your VIN#.

Also, this guy does not live in Canada, so all this advice you're giving him on Canadian insurance is pretty worthless.

Re: INSURANCE for new drive 2dr stick

they don't find out. You probably just heard that they did from somebody who knew and just thought it was true.

Yes, they can tell if you have a 4 door or a 2 door.
