Power loss, bad idle, EGR?
After having the plugs, leads, oil, belts, PAS tubes done and the rear wheel bearings rebuilt I still seem to have a slight issue which has suddenly got worse after the truck has been standing for a few months.
When cold the idle is rough but steady, it won't cut out but it sounds slightly like its missing. Its lost its ability to fly off the line quickly, this is the 7.4 and I used to be able to spin the wheels with just a tap of the throttle, it won't do this anymore. Up at around 40-50mph it will vibrate and seem to lose its torque, it requires a good press of the gas to get it through this. Over the whole range I seem to have to give it a bit more gas than before, especially on hills. At first I was just going to replace the dis & rotor, but reading up on my problems I'm leaning towards the EGR, but since I've never had EGR problems before I'm not 100% certain on this. I've read there is a way to test it by blocking the tubes, but the rules of this test seem to vary a lot in different threads on here, generally they say to block the tube and take the truck for a ride, but what exactly should I be looking for on that ride? Can someone explain it exactly? Truck is at 100,000 miles. 1999 old shape. Thanks, Craig |

You should at least inspect the cap and rotor it cheaper than a egr and could very well cause problems also fuel filter or fuel pressure could be your problem
