Formula 1 vs NASCAR vs Champ Car

Here is the question. What is the fastest car man has every built that can go around a track. Any car, how about general time comparisons between the the cars in the thread, f1 etc...how about in an oval?

Re: Formula 1 vs NASCAR vs Champ Car

On a high speed oval?
le mans car++
I think read they go over 230mph.
F1 doesn't go that fast because of all the downforce (drag) they have and nascars run restrictor plates for daytona and 'dega to keep it under aprox 200mph...

You have to realize that F1 cars are not set up for top speed like many of the other leagues. F1 cars are set up more for handling (hence the higher downforce) and mid range acceleration. In their native environment, more technically complicated tracks, an F1 car would absolutely dominate anything else. Around an oval, cars designed with less handling and higher top speed in mind (IRL/Cart) would probably do a bit better. If you were to take a F1 car, design the wings for higher top speed, and gear it for higher speed, I'd bet an F1 car would be pretty even with the IRL cars.

Ok yeah. Im a big fan of formula 1, i just wanted to make sure they were the fastest cars in the planet that can go around a track, with twists.

Re: Formula 1 vs NASCAR vs Champ Car

F1 all the way.

Its very easy to lower the downforce on a F1, and fit it with taller gear ratios to give them the top speed of a champ car.
But its very hard to make a champ car weigh as little as a F1.

Re: Formula 1 vs NASCAR vs Champ Car

well... "with twists" is a whole lot different then an oval...

i dunno how you can "make sure" that F1 cars are the best. they either are, or arent, reguardless of wether or not you know if they are.

Re: Formula 1 vs NASCAR vs Champ Car

Personally, im an F1 fan and not really a NASCAR or Champ car fan (except for my canuck hero Paul Tracy)

Ive always kinda wanted to see a race between a few of the best F1 cars with their drivers against some of the best NASCAR guys, 1 oval, 1 street....

but that would never ever on this cosmos happen because it really doesnt make sense for each car, and neither team would agree to it

BAR just did 415kph at Mojave Airforce Base. Converted thats about 258mph. That is with a car specifically set up for top speed, but still a race legal F1 car. Im pretty sure that beats pretty much anything else. Correct me if im wrong.
