Buying a used 2000 GTP...some suggestions please
Hello all,
I will be purchasing a used Grand Prix GTP coupe (2000). It has 64,000 KM on it and is in great shape.... The previous owner used regular gas (87) since they got it. Will this hurt the car in anyway? I plan to put premium in it but wondering if I should hold off since the engine is use to regular. I plan to switch out the stereo as well for my pioneer....what type of gear would I need for this particular model? Ill post more questions after when I get time... Thanks for your time. |

Re: Buying a used 2000 GTP...some suggestions please
Running regular doesn't really harm anything, but can cause carbon and deposit buildup due to the computer retarding timing to compensate for the low octane fuel. I would give it a full tune up (plugs, wires, fuel filter, PCV valve, air filter, and new oxygen sensors) to eliminate any carbon build up problems.
As far as the radio, they make adaptor kits for both the wiring and radio chassis to adapt it to the hole in your dash($15-$20 each). If you have the steering wheel controls, and your Pioneer has an IR remote, you can buy an adaptor to retain the steering wheel controls also(it runs about $50). |

So got the car today...looking nice...
Is there any benefit to shampooing the engine? Kinda want to make it feel like I have a new new car. What kind of leather cleaner is a good one to use on the interior? So much better than my '92 Dodge Spirit V6 haha |

I use saddle soap to clean my leather (turtle wax in an aerosol spray works nice) and Meguires leather care to protect (it doesn't dry out your leather and doesn't leave a greasy residue). To round off cleaning the interior, Tuff stuff (by STP) works awesome on the carpet. Depending on how dirty the engine is, cleaning can help it run cooler, because caked on oil and dirt hold in heat. But be careful, pressure washers can cut electrical wires and cause all kinds of grief.
