Question New Brakes all around...caliper stuck

Just had my brakes replaced and noticed that the back left wheel was smoking. I assume that the caliper is stuck. My question... With that much heat generated what damage can be done to the wheel area? What should I have the folks look at when I get it back to the brake shop?

Depending on how far you drove it before you stopped. Possibly Burnt or worpped brake drum. Brake shoes burnt. Weaken retainer springs. Sounds like they didn't check the adjustment of the Emergency brake or they just didn't adjust the brake shoes properly. Normally you tighten the adjustor till the brakes spot the drum from turning and then you back it off 24 clicks. Then you let the automatic adjustors adjust the shoes while driving in reverse and stepping on the pedals sharply several times.

Thanks for the quick reply...
Actually about 7 miles through town. However there was a lot of smoke. I am just worried mostly about heating it up again to get it back to the shop. Should I tow?

If you have 4 wheel disc brakes I would think either a bad caliper (which they should have caught) screwed up parking brake, or, bad / damaged brake hose. A clogged or damaged rubber brake hose will cause it to stick badly. Can warp the rotor, if not done already. Does the garage have a tow truck they could use to pick your truck up? Would call them for sure to see what they can do. If you have rear brake drums go with what Gabe posted. If it smoked that much, yes, get it towed one way of the other.

Update...
I had it towed this morning and the brake shop is replacing the rotors, calipers and pads on both rear wheels. Thanks to all for your insight and help.

Actually they did pick up the tow fee...I was very pleased in the way they handled the whole deal. They went a lot further than I expected. Will continue to do business with them. Just hope the heat did not damage something that is hidden now.
Again thanks for the help!

Pretty much all you would have was rotor and pad damage. Not likely anything else hurt. Good to see a business that takes care of it's mistakes. That is the way things should be done. Did they say what caused the caliper to freeze? Just curious.

No doubt...rare place. Most places would hem and haw and try to weasel out of it...
