Re: my speedometer is fucked up

Mine does the same thing sometimes. Some days, it will even just stay at zero. I just said screw it and I estimate speed off of gear vs RPM. In town, I just travel with traffic. Who needs a stinkin speedometer anyways...

Re: my speedometer is fucked up

i never said it was hard, i just dont think its a good habit and i dont want to start off with tickets. A friend of mine just got a ticket for a 54 in a 50. I highly doubt i can guess my speed more accurate than that. If i had some buick or something i might, but i seriously think the cops around here are stereotyped agaisnt the foreign tuner cars.....

If your someone whos going to come in this thread and try to tell me how i dont need my speedometer, then dont post. Apparently i want it or i wouldnt have made this thread...

Re: my speedometer is fucked up

if it's electronic, it'll be expensive to diagnose and fix anyway. It'll be semi-hard to pinpoint the problem... even if the replacement part can be dirt cheap.

Just adjust your speed to the traffic... that'll give u a good estimate... although that was pretty much obvious for any driver w/o a speedo...

Re: my speedometer is fucked up

well my dad is a mechanic (where my car is at, his house in oregon, i live in washington) and were going to try and find the problem this weekend when im over there. We are also going to change all the filters including fuel filter. Should i go with a 300zx fuel filter? The N/A or turbo one?

Its possible youre using the wrong speed sensor in the transmission which pegs the spedo at anything over ~60mph, thus stripping the internals of the gauge. It will occasionally read speed if a gear gets lucky and catches. Try replacing the spedo or the cluster. If it reads really high speeds replace the speed sensor.

Re: my speedometer is fucked up

well i dont think its the senser, because it does it just when you put the key in the ignition. I think its somewhere in the wiring or cluster...

Re: my speedometer is fucked up

ok, so i fixed the speedometer. If anyone else has any problems, just buy a new cluster and transfer the speedo module from the old one, put it in the new cluster. Plug it in to make sure it works, if it does, then reassemble with all your interior and stuff back togethor.
