9e probe gt problems

i got my probe from my fiances dad and her step brother decided to mess with the spark plug wires and the distributer. i fixed the spark plug wires and its a knew distributer but i dont know if i dont have it line up right or something but first gear is fine but 2nd gear on if you give it too much gas all it does is backfire . can someone please help me with my problem?

you most likely have the distributer too far advanced and it is firing when the exhaust valve is opening.
