are all intakes created equal?

so what makes the k&n air intake system so much better that an intake tube and a k&n filter. the off brand can be purchased for a fraction of the price, and you get the same filter. i am aware of the housing that the k&n system, and the nylon tube- but is it really that much better. if you have installed one or the other, have you noticed a difference.

What specific K&N intake system are you referring to...the AirCharger?

Do you have a GT or GTP?

Re: Re: are all intakes created equal?

Which one on Ebay for $70? Do you have a link to check it out.

Although it probably doesn't justify the cost the K&N Aircharger comes with a real K&N filter not a clone like the other aftermarkets. The cone filter on my Thrasher CAI is actually made by S&B which is a good company.

Price looks good but I noticed it had a 6.5" K&N cone filter. I thought the one on the Aircharger was bigger around 9". The name brand aftermarkets CAIs like MSP, Thrasher, etc. have a 9" cone. More square inches of air draw. The other problem with the Ebay offering is no heat shield or insulation but it supposedly has a heat resisting aluminum intake tube.

The K&N Aircharger has a composite molded intake tube non-metallic and the heat shield.

The object is to get cooler air from outside the engine compartment, if possible or minimize it (heat).

IMO it's a good alternative for the cost if you want something to get started right away without having to save up. The K&N is definitely over priced compared to the competing products. But I'd shop around for one that has a bigger filter. Good luck!
