Check oil & Coolant Level Low messages on a 1992 Olds 98 Regency Elite
I keep getting Check oil and Coolant Level Low messages on my dash. I've checked both and they are fine. Is there sensors somewhere that I need to replace?
Also, what kind of gas mileage should I be getting on the highway. I'm getting around 23 mpg according to the dash computer. Is that about right? Thanx |

The sensor for the low coolant level is on the right (passenger) side of the radiator, over by the battery.
The low oil sensor is at the back of the oil pan. As far as mileage, with my 92 Supercharged Touring Sedan, I average 20 - 21 mpg with a average speed of 26 mph. Straight hiway averages 28 - 29 mpg (average speed 49 mph), although if I can drive a steady flat 65 - 68 mph the computer will report 32 mpg +- 1 mpg (40+ mpg behind a Semi!) I find that accelerating briskly, but not full throttle, INCREASES my fuel mileage. Not sure why this is, is exactly opposite of what I would expect. I guess in thinking, it is better to get a period of short mileage at 6 mpg, than a prolonged period of the mileage at 12 mpg, at least according to the computer ![]() David |
