hey guys. got the head off and saw that the exhaust valve has a small section missing; burned up. don't see how since i had a valve job done in january. so i'm gonna put new valves in all three cylinders. question is:

how easy is it to do a head job? when you replace the valves what all needs replaced and removed? thanks guys!

if you have a burned valve your better of taking head to machine shop to have them grind seats and install new valves and seals. it take a special spring compressor to remove and intall keepers unless you can rig something up. if motor has over 100K miles i would also replace the rings an rod bearings or it will probably use oil when you put it back together or replace engine with a JDM one

you saying i should pull motor? never done that myself and another question is; is it really worth the time and money for a three cyl?

guess its up to you if you would rather do a head rebuild and possibly a ring job or if you would rather put in a JDM engine. value of these cars have been going up with the gas prices so you should be able to sell it at a profit if you decide not to keep it unless it is really beat

Burned exhaust valve? Better look at the EGR channels and EGR valve; I bet they are clogged solid. Very tough to ream them out as they are too crooked to clean out without disassembling head from ex manifold and throttle body. I used the end of a bicycle brake cable with the spiral steel undone a bit to make a roto rooter and lots of camp stove fuel as a solvent. Good luck.
