are you sure that it isnt the brake lights that are stuck on.. if it is than the brake light switch is bad

Not the brake lights

Not the brake lights, its the actual lights that come on when you turn on your head lights. The weird thing is they dont stay on all the time. Take today for example, the cars been sitting because i thought the battery was dead (moms car). So i take the battery down and have it tested, perfect, because she didnt tighten the neg cable last time she seen the tail lights on (temp fix). Anyway i put the battery in and all is fine, turn the car off, boom tail lights are on. I unhook the battery cable and try to find fuse box etc.. by the way the radio is not working at this time. then i hook up the cable, fire up the car and the radio is playing, ac is on. So i hit the off button on the ac and it turns off along with said radio and radio will not come back on, ac will. I let it run awhile and turn the lights on and off, high beam and low. turn the car off, tail lights go off, yet radio doesnt work. Im no mechanic but this has got me completely baffled. Please any help is greatly appreciated cause i cant afford another car for mom.

I have the exact same problem with my 90 Riviera for at least two years now. I've taken the car to several mechanics, but none of them have been able to find the cause of the problem. It's not the brake lights that are on, it's the tail lights. My remedy is to check the rear lights every time you shut of the car, and if they're on, drive the car a little bit. That will usually turn them off. I'd still like to know what causes the problem because it's a real pain.
