2000 Tahoe Limited Front End Question

I took my Tahoe in today for an alignment and it was pointed out to me that the

Pitman, Inner and Outer Tie Rods, Sleeve's, and Idler need to be replaced (The raised the Tahoe and showed me the slippage).

I am rather unhappy that they all only lasted 120K miles because on my other SUV's and trucks (much more miles) this is not a problem.

I can get it all replaced with factory or OEM parts, but I would prefer to put upgraded parts in place instead of using the same parts that failed in such a short period of time.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which parts would be the a solid upgrade for this?

LOL, I called around and when I told them it was a 2000 tahoe limited I got the usualy response, "That is not in our book". Hahaha, changing the shocks on it was a real joy. I ended up just taking it in and having them pull one of each and find out what they should be replaced with from there.

Thanks,

K

Re: 2000 Tahoe Limited Front End Question

kulmak,
Where did you take your tahoe for alignment? I find this a little hard to believe. I have a 2000 Yukon (same front end as the Tahoe) and the Idler arm and Pitarm are pretty heavy duty stock. Unless you forgot to lube the front end for the past 120,000 miles, they should not be worn out.

I live in the San Jose area and I can recommend a couple of shops to you. One of them is in Santa Cruz, but he does the best alignments around. He was my instructor when I was trained to do alignments back in the early 80s while I was in college working part time at a tire shop.

The other shop is near 17 and Camden. I would recommend that you get a second opinion.

Re: 2000 Tahoe Limited Front End Question

Ok, I will get a second opinion, but they did lift the Tahoe up and show me the major slippage that was there. When they manually moved either wheel you could see visible gaps where the joints meet. There was also a LOT of play.

By the way, I have seen alot of Limiteds around lately. There was a few years where I only say one or two others. Now I have seen then much more often.

my email address is [email protected]. If you can email me the info for those 2 shops (no prob going to Santa Cruz if it means going to someone who knows what they are doing).

Thanks for the info.
