Ever had a pet return back after running away?

Go figure, the other day I mentioned in a thread that since I am recovering from foot surgery I am home bound but I am able to walk a little bit and I lost my cat.
Two weeks earlier I'm outside the back yard and I see the most cutest cat I have ever seen. I am not into cats mind you, I have two dogs. But still the cat was very cute, so I call to it and it lays on its back wanting me to play with it. I never seen any stray animal acting so cute and friendly. It looked very clean, young and possibly got lost recently. So I take her in and feed her and shes (or he, I can't tell) is being very friendly and cute, so I decide to keep her.
Forward a week later I had my foot surgery and after a few days I am able to walk around, one day I hear this crash out side. Its a car accident and I opened up the door a bit to look, (noisy me) to see what all the commotion is outside, menawhile I barely hear my family screaming at me, I turn around to see what their fuss is about and they are telling me to be careful with the cat which at this precise momment the cat slips by my feet and goes outside. I panic (so does everyone else), me in a cast hopping all over the place trying to catch this cat. But the cat runs aways. Then it starts raining. Craps. I figure shes long gone. Stupid fucking cat. Why leave a warm home with food galore. Oh well, my fault, but still the cat is stupid for leaving. Since then I have been missing the darn thing.
Forward to the present, I'm on my way to go to the doctor and who do I see as I'm about to drive away, the cat. I run out (actually hopping along) and she jumps into my arms. Its been a week she escape. Shes skinnier and abit more dirty, but looks fine. I bring her in and shes eats like no tomorrow.

So has anyone else ever had a pet run away or excape and you end up getting them back after a few days.

Re: Ever had a pet return back after running away?

Same thing happened to me. Our cat was a stray with a flea/tick collar but we figured where the cat came from there were already too many cats and the owners just let it go... ie. they never came knocking a few doors down... Anyway, we had the cat late last winter and started to feed it and tend to it. Note: my wife loves cat and never got one since we've met since I was allergic but come to find out it's male cats I'm allergic too. Anyway, she walks the cat outside to do it's business or let's it out. I was like inside or outside one or the other. She doesn't listen and the cat takes off one day. Too fucking bad I said. We figured it was long gone and then it comes back 2 weeks later and my wife was all happy. I think the old lady next door just kept it inside and fed it or the freaky woman down the street who supposedly boards animals in her house (nasty). Anyway, the cat stays inside and has a box. Occassionally, my wife likes to let the cat outside and I freak out. The cat stays inside. So when the cat goes near the door, I yell at it and it runs off. Basically, the cat is scared of me. Stupid fucking cat.

My dog used to run away for a few hours here and there but always wound back up on our porch. I loved that dog...

Re: Ever had a pet return back after running away?

i had a cat run away when i was like 7...then about 4 years later, i made a new friend at school. I went over to his house and saw his cat Midnight, who ive heard him talk so much about. I notice it looks a lot like mine did...then my mom examined it and noticed it was declawed in the front paws, and had a scar on its belly from where it had surgury, just like our old cat. come to find out, he found it four years earlier in the summer (when we lost ours). What are the odds?

My buddy's cat ran away about a year or so ago and was gone for about a month, then just showed back up at home one night like it was never gone.

My cat will get out from time to time and will always come back. Stupid fucking cat will wake me up at like 4 in the morning screaming outside of my window. Longest she was ever gone was like a day or two when she started living under the neighboors porch. Good luck in the hunt. Peace-

Re: Ever had a pet return back after running away?

The dog I had as a kid used to run away all the time. He was bold about it too, he knew he could out run us. He had this thing for female dogs and fathered several sets of puppies that we knew about, and probably many more that we weren't aware of. Irresponsible owners we were but since his name was "happy" at least we got that right. Once when he was loose he followed me to school. I didn't want to be late so instead of taking him home I just kept telling him to go home. It didn't work. When I opened the school door he ran in! It sure was funny listening to all the kids hollering as he ran from room to room!

My cat was kept indoors until it was old enough to know what was going on, then I started letting it out. Basically it will run around all day when I am at work, then I will get home, open the window and it jumps inside to its bed. It went missing once for a few days and when it came back, it was real skinny and wet. Haven't seen it roam further than a few houses away since.

Our dogs have a doggy door so they run in and out as they please (they are only small jack russells). They are both pretty tame so they don't won't leave the yard without us. I once saw one of them run outside when my Dad got home, run right up the the front boundry look around the street then ran back to Dad ready to go inside. Never even left the yard.

Re: Ever had a pet return back after running away?

In college, my roommate had a cat named Romeo. Well, ole Rome took off when he was about 4 months old. We figured on never seeing him again.

Then, almost a year later, this big tomcat comes swaggering up the sidewalk towards us at the house. Sure enough it's Romeo. He comes up, nuzzles us a bit and we feed him, noticing his ears are looking a bit chewed and he has numerous other scars. He sauntered off and we never saw him again.
