Can't find fuel filter...Am I crazy?

I am replacing the fuel filter in my 86 Bronco II and I can't locate the fuel filter, I follwed the lines all the way from the tank up the side and came to the electronic fuel pump on the outside, and continued to follow the lines all the way up to the engine. The electronic pump I came to was what I first thought was the filter, but once I took it off I realized it had an electrical wire running to it, and it didn't match up with the filter I was given. Could it be housed behind a shield or cover that I don't see? If anyone knows or could at least tell me where yours is located to give me a better idea. I am without a truck until I fix this one. Please reply!

Re: Can't find fuel filter...Am I crazy?

if its in the same place as my friends 88 then it will be under a cover about 2 feet past the external fuel pump on the frame rail

dont know about an 86, but my 88 has three filters. one on the pump in the tank, another canister type filter between the tank and the high pressure pump, and another inline between the high pressure pump and the motor. the one between the high pressure pump and the motor is located behind the drivers side front wheel on the inside of the frame rail behind a shield. this is probably where yours is. also is yours fuel injected or carb? if carb, then may be on fuel line where it goes into carb.

Is this beast carburated?

You should look on the engine at the front, the fuel filter should be a little canister right before the carb on the fuel line. (I'm assuming it's a 2.9.)
